Fresh Priorities

"And he showed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding from the throne of God and of the Lamb. In the middle of its street, and on either side of the river, was the tree of life, which bore twelve fruits, each tree yielding its fruit every month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. And there shall be no more curse, but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it, and His servants shall serve Him. They shall see His face, and His name shall be on their foreheads. There shall be no night there: They need no lamp nor light of the sun, for the Lord God gives them light. And they shall reign forever and ever." Revelation 22:1-5

One thing that being sick with Covid this last two weeks has taught me is that life is finite. Being so sick that you can't eat or think gives you a fresh longing for eternity. Sickness and death is all part of the curse and recently we looked at the verse “Do not be afraid; I am the First and the Last. I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen. And I have the keys of Hades and of Death." Revelation 1:17-18 on our Sunday morning studies. This has given me a brand new perspective and realigned my priorities for the work of the gospel. We need to understand how short the time is and be about the work of the ministry. Jesus told us two weeks ago "Behold, I am coming quickly! Hold fast what you have, that no one may take your crown." Revelation 3:11. Are you holding fast to the useless things of this world that have no eternal rewards? The only thing we have left when all else is gone is our faith. We live in a culture and society that have no interest in eternal things. Their hope in salvation comes from the world system. This is the system that is coming to an end very soon. Where are you putting your trust in today? Are you looking forward to a sunny future here on the earth in this life or what's ahead for us in the scripture above? Paul would remind us in Colossians 3:1-3 "If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God." I have decided to make a priority of setting my mind and seeking those things that are above. Let's decide to do that as a church together. Let's make the decision to have fresh priorities.
